At around the millennium I was back in the UK and doing some interesting work with Navision in Copenhagen, evangelising e-business connectivity and the role-based workflows and portals that were later rolled out in the product.
One day I presented a 'back of a napkin' diagram of what I called a 'web service broker hub' to Navision founder Torben Wind who promptly setup the project that became known as 'Navihub' and then Navision VIP.
Navihub got to beta and I was told it was one of 10 innovations demonstrated to Bill Gates before Microsoft bought Navision (that had cannily acquired local rival Damgaard to enhance their acquisition profile).
But Navihub was built using non-Microsoft technology and was way ahead of its time (it was a kind of web services app store long before Apple introduced the concept) so it was canned and my vision of every ERP system boasting its own web service 'broker hub' relegated to the trashcan.
