The PM is responsbile for keeping the RAID register updated and for checkpointing it regularly with the project steering team.

I tend to keep risks, assumptions and dependencies separate from issues - so I prefer RA(I)D.

The reason is that issue lists can be long and change frequently whereas your RAD should be shorter and less volatile.

Also assumptions and dependencies tend to be linked to or driving specific risks, in other words risks 'flow-out' of assumptions and dependencies and are reduced if those assumptions and dependencies are closed off.

There is also a difference between issues at the steering team and delivery team levels:

• steering team issues are usually created by the steering team or escalated up from the delivery team
• the delivery team is creating and closing issues all the time, most of which are not relevant to the steering team RAID
